- How do you use the Site Wizard?
Just follow the prompts, choose the colors and templates you wish to use, and fill in the templates with your own text and/or graphic images. Any existing pages with the same name as those created by Site Wizard will be saved to a new directory on your web-site called OLD-FILES. After you finish the Site Wizard, you will be presented with the link to visit your site.
Note: You will not be able to view your web page until you have completed all steps.
- Do I have to know HTML to use the Site Wizard?
No. The Site Wizard allows you to create pages for your site automatically, with no knowledge of HTML.
- Will the Site Wizard allow me to use HTML if I choose to?
Yes. You can use HTML tags to customize your pages further. Check the HTML box on your pages to enable this function.
- How can I use tables in my web pages?
If you want to use tables on your pages, check the HTML box on your pages and use the basic HTML table tags.
- How can I make changes after the site is completed?
You can edit your pages in the Digital Site Editor from the Control Panel.
- Why do I get an error message after leaving the Site Wizard and returning later to make changes?
Once you have logged out, you must log back in to begin another session. Using the "Back" button in your browser will cause you to get an error message when you try to re-enter Site Control.
- Why do my web pages look blank?
Do not choose similar colors for background and font color, as it will not show up. For example, Yellow font color is hard to see on a white background.
- Does Digital Outlook also design web pages?
Digital Outlook does offer custom web designing services. Just contact us to discuss your specific needs.
Please contact sales@digitaloutlook.com for more information.
- How many different types of buttons can I choose for my web site?
You can only choose one button style. For an easier to read website, choose a button style that corresponds with your background and font colors.
- Will the page layout I choose for my web site appear only on the first page of the site, or on all pages?
The style that you select will appear on every page you create using the Site Wizard.
- What is a Nav Bar?
A Nav Bar is the frame on the left side of the page that will be displayed on every page of your site. You will create a page for each button that you choose.
- How do I alter my pictures or graphics before I add them to my web site?
Edit the graphic using an image editor such as NetStudio.
- How do I change a graphic (replace an existing graphic with a new graphic)?
Edit the page in the CP File Manager. Delete the old graphic from the page and upload the new one using Activedit. Alternatively, you can upload the new graphic with the same name as the old graphic (it will replace the old graphic), or edit the HTML page locally on your machine and upload the graphic. This option requires knowledge of HTML tags.
- Why aren't the graphics that I selected appearing on my web page?
Currently there are three standard Internet formats: .gif, .jpg and .png. Some .gif, .jpg and .png files may not display properly in some browsers, if certain options are chosen when saving/editing (i.e., JPEG Progressive format option), or if the file is corrupt. Other standard graphics formats such as .bmp and .tif MAY display correctly in some browsers, but WILL NOT display correctly in all browsers.
Finally, simply uploading a file does not cause it to display on web pages automatically. After they are uploaded, they must be referenced from within a page using an HTML tag, like the <IMG> tag.
- Why am I still seeing old pages or graphics on my web site after I've changed them?
There are two or more caches at work here. The local computer cache, the server cache and any intermediate (your ISP's) caches. To force a reload of the local cache:
- hit the refresh button on your browser
- if that does not work, close and re-open your browser
- if that does not work, delete temporary Internet files from your browser
If the above does not work, the file may be cached on the server, and you have to wait for it to expire.
If it is not a server cache problem, your ISP may be caching the file. You will have to contact your service provider for more information to resolve this issue.
Here's a link to an excellent beginner's article on caching:
http://www.wdvl.com/Internet/Cache/work.html
One way to avoid cache problems completely is to use the "expires" HTTP header on pages. This may have a significant effect on page download speed, however; since a full trip to the server must be made every time the page is downloaded, regardless of the last time the page was modified (i.e., a page modified a year ago will still be downloaded completely - as if it were fresh, no matter how many times the user has downloaded the page recently.)
- What kind of information should I put on my web site?
Here are some suggestions:
- Use your phone book ad as a starting point.
- Ask yourself what other information you would add if the telephone company gave you a whole page ad for the same price.
- Most local merchants sell the "same" products and services as competitors in town. You need to COMPETE on some combination of the following:
- PRICE
This can include terms such as rate, annual percentage yield, terms or fees.
- SERVICE
This can include after sale support, or be part of what you sell.
- CONVENIENCE
Can include location, hours of operation, telephone banking and Internet banking.
- AVAILABILITY
Variety and quantity of options.
- QUALITY
Years in the business, NCUA, EHL.
- FRIENDLINESS / RELATIONSHIP
Fun place to bank? Clerks with smiles?
- GUARANTEE
What happens when customer is not happy?
- SALES ASSISTANCE
Help in selecting the right loan, account or options from knowledgeable representative.
- In each of the above characteristics of your business, use a sentence or two about your position / philosophy.
- Then rank the list in order of importance.
- Use information, graphics, and styles from any other advertising you have done in the past. Flyers, discount cards, promotions, etc.
- I already have a web site. Do I have to create a new one?
If you have an existing web site, you can choose to move it over to our service. The prices are listed on Digital Outlook's web site.
- How do I upload my hard copy photos and graphics to my web site?
If you have logos, pictures (company office building, employees, etc.) or marketing materials that will need to show on your web site, scan them, have a friend scan them or go to KINKO's and have them scan the images so they are ready for you to input into the Site Wizard.
- What guidelines should I follow when selecting images for my web site?
All images should be in JPG of GIF format at 72 pixels resolution and no more than 300 pixels wide. Graphics with a file size greater than 50k will load in a browser very slowly; the smaller the better.
- Where can I find additional images for my web site?
Click here http://clients.digitaloutlook.com/clipart to select images from Digital Outlook's clip art collection. Click here http://www.coolarchive.com/clipart.cfm for other free clip art, or here http://www.corbis.com to purchase photos. Right-click the graphic that you like, and select "Save Picture As..." Remember where you save it so you can upload it to your web site. Hit the browse button and select your graphic to upload.
